Devizes main street is dominated by the Wadworth Brewer(y).
[Devizes] [Devizes]
The plaque on the fountain says "Erected MDCCCLXXIX [1879] by public subscription to the memory of the Right Honble Thomas H.S. Sotheron Astcourt Member of Parliament for Marlborough Devizes & North Wilts for a period of XXXIII years founder of the Friendly Socty. Wiltshire"
I'm not sure if Astcourt MP always gets the respect he probably thought he deserved.
"I wonder what chat-up line Ginger is using (I wonder if it worked)."
[Market Cross] [Devizes]
There's another monument in Market Square - a Market Cross, erected in 1814, by the local MP.
Le Marchant Barracks
(above) Le Marchant Barracks - a building with an attitude. (below) The Crammer - the pond the town council claims as the Moonraker's pond (not convinced).
And Devizes Marina - which turns out to be a more modest affair than I had imagined.
